Federal Election 2025
Building a stronger Kingston and the Islands
takes teamwork. I’m grateful for the support
of community leaders, organizations, and
neighbours who believe in our shared vision.
Here’s what they have to say!
MARK
GERRETSEN
Voices from our community
Business Owner & Community Builder
I have known Mark Gerretsen for many years and I deeply
respect his political journey. From his early days as a city
councillor and Mayor to his current role as our esteemed
Member of Parliament, Mark has consistently championed our
community’s interests with unwavering passion and dedication.
Throughout his tenure as MP, Mark has secured vital federal
funding for housing, infrastructure, and public transit in
Kingston.
Notably, since 2017, Mark has helped to obtain over $38 million
in funding for close to 250 affordable housing units built
throughout the city. In 2024, Mark helped to facilitate an
additional $27.6 million, which will fast-track the creation of 890
homes over the next 3 years, and more than 4,800 homes over
the next decade.

From the very beginning, Mark was a tireless advocate for a Third Crossing. The $60 million federal investment that he
helped acquire, as our Member of Parliament, was crucial in moving the project forward.
As an environmentalist, Mark is committed to promoting sustainable transportation and green initiatives. Since 2015,
Mark has garnered over $30 million in federal funds to support public transit projects, including electric buses,
infrastructure improvements, as well as new transit stations and shelters.
Mark has proven he is equipped with the knowledge, experience, and skills to successfully navigate the complexities of
federal politics and collaborate with his municipal and provincial counterparts. He has my continued support.
Healthcare Professional, Small Business Owner
Local politics is a team effort, and that is why I am pleased to
endorse Mark Gerretsen. Mark has been a tireless advocate for
Kingston and the Islands, with a proven track record of
leadership, integrity, collaboration and service that spans
decades. In meetings over the years, Mark has not just heard
concerns—he has acted on them. This commitment to listening
and responding makes him a trusted and effective
representative.
As our MP, Mark has helped to secure substantial funding for
local infrastructure, research and innovation, affordable housing,
and social services that have directly benefited our community.
Mark has also been a vocal proponent for health, well-being, and
our environment, and is committed to creating a healthier and
more sustainable future.
Conny Glenn
It is evident that Mark cares about Canada and this community, and I have full confidence that Mark’s passion,
dedication, and experience will continue to serve us well in Ottawa.
Artist, Educator, Activist
As an artist and activist, I am grateful for the support from Mark
Gerretsen. His dedication to amplifying the message of the "Hate
Has No Home Here" campaign has been inspiring to see from a
political figure. By bringing attention to this initiative in the
House of Commons, Mark has helped spread the message of
unity, inclusivity, and love across our community and beyond.
His commitment to creating welcoming spaces within our
community is a testament to his leadership. Choosing
representatives who serve as a voice for our entire community is
important given the hateful climate of the world right now.
As a Trans non-binary individual, it is important to me that the
leaders within our community bring representation and
awareness to individuals whose voices need to be amplified.
Hill Werth
I believe Mark is this person and that is why I support him to represent Kingston and the Islands.
Community Food Security Advocate
Over the last few years, I have gotten to know Mark Gerretsen
through my work addressing food insecurity in the KFL&A
region.
An active listener, Mark is eager to understand the impact of
food insecurity on families and individuals in the community. He
doesn’t hesitate to use his connections as an MP to raise
awareness in Ottawa while keeping his focus on actions which
improve the quality of life for all members of this community.
Mark's unwavering support for basic income reflects his
understanding that the solution to food insecurity is financial
stability, not more work from tireless community food providers
and volunteers. Mark knows the needs of our community and is
dedicated to collaborating to find solutions.
Brenda Moore
2021 Federal NDP Candidate for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, Former Kingston City Councillor, Teacher
With the challenges our country faces today, it is essential for
progressives to unite behind one candidate in the upcoming
federal election to ensure we do not split the vote.
We must be mindful of the potential consequences of electing
Pierre Poilievre as our next Prime Minister. His policies risk
undermining our public services and sowing division within our
society, similar to the political climate south of our border under
Donald Trump. Having Trump and Poilievre in power at the same
time could have serious implications for both Canada and the
international community.
We are fortunate to have Mark Gerretsen, a true progressive, as
our local Liberal candidate.
Steve Garrison
Mark's vision for the future encompasses social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic fairness. He has
consistently championed policies that uplift the marginalized, protect our environment, and ensure fairness for all.
Having worked closely with Mark on Kingston City Council, I can attest to his honesty, transparency, and unwavering
commitment to progressive values. Mark truly understands and advocates for the needs of our community.
I encourage all progressive voters to unite behind a candidate who shares our values and vision. I am proud to support
Mark Gerretsen in this critical election and I encourage you to do the same.
Kingston resident & Member of The Tragically Hip
Since 2015, we’ve witnessed unprecedented efforts to safeguard
and celebrate our Canadian identity. These initiatives, rolled out
under Liberal leadership, have focused on arts and heritage, and
have helped to unite Canadians from coast to coast and have
also amplified our unique voices on the global stage. This
commitment to fostering creative industries helps provide
countless artists and creators with the resources they need to
thrive.
Mark Gerretsen is an engaged and active voice for Kingston and
the Islands, championing funding applications and highlighting
local achievements in the House of Commons at every
opportunity. In an era where cultural preservation is more
important than ever, I, for one, am grateful for his unwavering
commitment. I will be proud to support Mark again in this
election.
Rob Baker

By showing up for community events, getting involved in
outreach, and staying active in local matters, Mark Gerretsen has
really connected with the people he represents. His genuine
interest in engaging with community members has built a sense
of trust and unity, making everyone feel heard and valued.
Mark's effort to get to know me, my family, and our community
has made a big impact. Not only has he provided invaluable
support, but he's also always been available when we needed
him. He's done a fantastic job of making sure our voices are
heard at higher levels of government.
Mark's determination to address the needs and concerns of our
riding has brought resources and attention to important issues in
our community and inspired others to get involved and make a

difference. We support Mark Gerretsen because we truly appreciate his unwavering dedication and compassionate
approach.
Owner, Martello Alley
Mark Gerretsen has shown outstanding support and dedication
to our community, particularly during challenging times. As a
local business owner, the recent tariff situation has been a cause
for concern, but I am immensely grateful for the swift and robust
response from the federal government.
Mr. Gerretsen's efforts, alongside his colleagues, have
demonstrated a strong commitment to safeguarding our
economy and ensuring the continued success of Canadian
businesses. The government's measures, including the
implementation of counter-tariffs and support for affected
industries, provided much-needed relief and reassurance.
Mark’s continued advocacy and dedication to nurturing a
positive business environment is evident.
David Dossett
Our region has seen significant federal investments in local tourism, economic development, and support for local
businesses during his tenure as our Member of Parliament, and I am confident that he is the right choice to continue
representing Kingston and the Islands.
MWO (Ret)
Mark Gerretsen has consistently demonstrated his commitment
to strengthening Canada’s defense capabilities, a necessity in
today’s complex global landscape. Under his tenure as MP for
Kingston and the Islands, significant investments have been
made to modernize military infrastructure, including the $98
million project for the new 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment
facility at CFB Kingston. This initiative not only enhances
Canada’s electronic warfare capabilities but also supports local
jobs and economic growth.
In contrast, previous Conservative governments were
responsible for a decline in military support, with defense
spending reduced and key commitments abandoned, such as the
Canada First Defence Strategy and reduced funding and services
to our Veterans.
Clay Leskie
Mark Gerretsen’s advocacy for increased military funding and the Liberal’s new defence policy, Our North Strong and
Free, reflects a forward-thinking approach, that will see Canada meet our NATO commitments, ensuring our armed
forces are equipped to meet modern challenges while promoting Canadian values at home and abroad. His leadership
underscores the importance of investing in both national security and community growth.
Longtime Resident of Kingston, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Advocate
As a proud Kingston resident with deep roots and extensive
service to the community, I strongly endorse Mark Gerretsen.
His proven dedication as MP, coupled with his prior roles as City
Councillor and Mayor (2006-2014), has significantly benefited
both Kingston and Canada.
Mark continues the legacy of leaders like Peter Milliken and Ted
Hsu. At this critical time, a Liberal government is essential to
address national challenges. Not only is Mark Carney clearly the
only choice, with all the global and national leadership skills and
requisite economic knowledge, Ministers like Dominic Leblanc,
Mélanie Joly, Chrystia Freeland, and François-Philippe
Champagne offer the stability and proven experience we need.
Let’s send Mark back to Ottawa!
Hal Holt
Kingston Resident and Summer Student
Mark Gerretsen’s dedication to youth engagement and sharing
federal opportunities stands out—he always ensures that
Kingston and The Islands is informed about programs and
initiatives that could benefit young Canadians. Through social
media, in-person school visits, and community outreach, Mark
encourages active participation.
Working in the constituency office of Mark Gerretsen as a
summer student was an inspiring experience. It offered a unique
chance to witness Canadian politics in action and the
opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects.
The role allowed me to develop valuable skills, from research to
communication, while feeling like my voice mattered. It was
empowering to see how young people can influence change and
Kennedy Shemrock
be part of shaping their communities. This experience reaffirmed the importance of involving youth in the democratic
process.
President of Queen’s University Liberal Association
I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Mark and his team
over the past two years, first as Vice President and now as
President of the Queen’s University Liberal Association.
Mark has been a steadfast representative of Queen’s University
and its students in Ottawa. I’ve seen firsthand how he never
hesitates to meet with students to discuss the biggest issues
facing our generation, such as housing and climate change.
He has also done an excellent job of building bridges between
Queen’s students and the Kingston community, providing
opportunities for students to volunteer and engage in his
community events and initiatives.
I’m proud to endorse Mark Gerretsen for MP for Kingston and
the Islands!
Jacob Johnston
Longtime Resident of Kingston
Mark Gerretsen truly cares about representing everyone in the
community.
He takes the time to connect with people through emails,
surveys, attending events, and going door-to-door. This helps
him listen to what people have to say and make them feel
valued.
His approach not only brings him closer to the community but
also helps him make decisions based on what people really need
and want.
For these reasons, he has my vote.

Medal Awardee (2024)
I have known Mark Gerretsen since he was Mayor of Kingston.
We first met when I invited him to bring greetings to the citizens
of Kingston who were lined up to attend Science Rendezvous
Kingston. He has attended the event every year since, and has
been an enthusiastic voice for and vocal supporter of public
education.
Mark’s political trustworthiness is high. My observations of him
with everyday citizens from the area suggest that he is perceived
as one who is predictable, committed, competent and
responsive. Mark has worked diligently to build relationships
with people of all ages and demographics. People believe that
Mark intends to and always will act in the best interests of the
citizens of Kingston and the Islands. Mark genuinely cares for
people and sees himself in a serving role.

As people watch him share experiences with his family at his side, his integrity speaks volumes. They know that he
shares with them, the same goals or the same morals, values and notions of what is right and fair.
Public education, science and mathematics outreach is my passion and purpose. To feel Mark’s support for those
efforts gives me confidence that science communication, scientific research and education will always be priorities that
are supported.

community. I also appreciated how he approached every
challenge with a thoughtful and collaborative spirit, always
striving to find solutions that would benefit the people of
Kingston. His leadership, integrity, and genuine concern for
community members were evident in every decision he made.
This same dedication has been evident in his work representing
the voices of Kingston and the Islands in Ottawa. Since retiring
from politics, I am still involved in the community and have seen

our region remains as strong as ever. Mark has earned my vote.

his representation. His thoughtful approach to decision-making
and his unwavering commitment to progress have made
Kingston a better place for all.

confidently say that he is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and
celebrating diversity.
Mark's presence at key community events and commemorations
has been deeply appreciated over the years. Whether attending
cultural celebrations or participating in moments of reflection,

appreciation for the values and traditions that matter to us. His
engagement is not just symbolic; it reflects his genuine
commitment to building bridges and strengthening bonds within
our community.

leader—approachable, empathetic, and dedicated to making a
